$50 Per Pay Check Dividend Portfolio Update 1/24/20

This update is a week late because I was out of the country and didn't have internet access. If everything worked correctly, this sentence would be about how because I had set up automatic transfers, the account would've been funded anyway despite my absence. I would go on to extol the virtues of modern technology and how it makes life easier.

But the $50 transfer didn't happen.

It's possible I canceled it by accident when I opened a new M1 account two weeks ago. I certainly didn't do it on purpose and suspect that my having applied for M1 Spend had something to do with it (whether I canceled the automatic transfer by accident or it was canceled as part of activating the Spend feature). I get a lot of email from M1 Finance, but nothing about the transfer being canceled. (I also didn't get an email for setting it up, so that doesn't necessarily mean anything.)

For this reason and other quirks in the past, I will investigate transferring this account to Schwab, once I see how fractional share purchases work there. In the meantime, I've reinstated the automatic $50 transfer and will initiate a manual $50 transfer for the missed one in the coming days.

In other portfolio news, the portfolio is now very much behind the Standard and Poor's 500 index. This is possible because the portfolio's weightings and holdings are different from the index, but when I have some additional time I will investigate further. From some past issues and the canceled automatic transfer, I have reason to doubt M1's numbers.

For example, I transferred a total of $900 to M1. The account value is $945.54 in investments plus $4.81 in cash, for a total of $950.35. That makes for a gain of $50.35. But the gain calculated in the portfolio overview is $52.24. That doesn't make sense to me.
